England along with Welsh Pitted Together for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by rugby legends such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England and Wales will face off in an identical group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a major early clash in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw echoes their famous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at England's home ground played a part in the English team's surprise early exit.

Key Pool Draws

The Irish alongside Scotland have likewise been drawn in a group together, replicating the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a convincing win, with Scotland failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, both made a strong impression as underdogs in the last World Cup, round out that Pool D.

Significantly, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet holders and top-ranked South Africa before the final, presuming the South Africans win their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

If the pools conclude in line with the current world rankings, further leading contenders like the All Blacks and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from the likes of the English and the Irish until the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on the same half of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Opener

Hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their great rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Group A.

The Wallabies will kick off the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster fixture aimed at launch the event.

Elsewhere, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and Romania. The French team are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face Fiji, Spain and Canada as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who took part in 2023.

This edition will feature a round of 16 stage for the very first time in the competition's history.

Although the winner of Pool F may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely Italy – in the last 16.

A total of four of the remaining six group winners will play a team that finished third from the pool stages.
